Sing With Us!
Interested in singing great music that you’ve probably never experienced before?
There’s a truly wonderful choral tradition that few singers really know: it’s the music of Russia and the surrounding areas. It has an earthy exuberance, emotional intensity, mystical sense and depth of spirit all its own.
The Slavyanka Russian Chorus in San Francisco is inviting singers to join us for our upcoming series of concerts (we usually perform three concert seasons a year, with occasional international tours and recordings). Our Artistic Director, Irina Shachneva, is a top-level, professionally trained conductor and vocal teacher -- and her combination of musical ability and vocal / choral instruction will not only help you become a significantly better singer, but part of an exciting choral ensemble.
Since our founding in 1979, the Slavyanka Russian Chorus has sung in hundreds of concerts in the Bay Area and California, produced many recordings, and sung in a number of movie soundtracks. Over the years, the Chorus has also been a very active force for cultural diplomacy, singing in the Soviet Union, Russia, and the Balkans on five musical tours to enthusiastic and welcoming audiences. Click here for more information on our history.
You don’t have to know a Slavic language (most of our singers don’t) to sing with the Chorus; we provide all the translations, transliterations, and pronunciation help you’ll need. And we’ve got all kinds of spiffy new learning tools (printed scores with easy to read text, audio files, online resources etc.) to make it easy to get up to speed quickly.
Please use the contact form if you are interested in singing with us. Looking forward to hearing from you!
